White Orb was a secret project for the Second Generation Decepticons, created to be an ultimate weapon against the Autobot/Decepticon alliance. Fortunately for the Autobots, his mind was different than the others. His had the morals the others lacked, and so he fled in the first battle and would ultimately become the self-proclaimed defender of the Cybertronian race.
White Orb saw that there were alien races that were more highly advanced than the original Cybertronians that could be defeated with the advanced technology he possessed. Being of the Second Generation of Cybertronians, he carried the best advancements in weapons, defenses, and power systems made in the four million years that the Decepticons were allowed to develop freely.
He has three modes: Robot, Spaceplane, and Missiletank. In his Spaceplane mode, he has the ability to generate a white, spherical energy shield that turns himself into a powerful projectile weapon capable of mass destruction. His Missiletank mode allows him to fire eight missiles at once, each one capable of creating a powerful mini-shield that duplicates the Spaceplane's abilities.
He is not capable of traveling at light-speeds or using transwarp drive on his own, so he travels long distances using a transwarp timeship which he obtained and modified with the most powerful artificial intelligence in existance. It has the ability to make judgement calls and decisions on its own in case its pilot is somehow incapacitated, and is defended by a cloaking device and multi-use weapons, including a specialized stasis-field generator that can move the enemy and erase their memory.
With these abilities, White Orb travels to Cybertronians in need of his kind of assistance, trains them with methods he learned from centuries of experience, and aids them in times of need. Outside of these incidents, he is unknown to all.
In the Beast Wars, he assumes a new identity as Triceratron to defend the Maximals and Predacons from the mysterious aliens, the Skriix race that attacks on the whims of the other aliens, and ultimately Cybertron from the Predacon's tyranny.
